At the Swearing-in Ceremony of the new student leaders of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU) held today, Thursday, 5th of February, 2025, at the Trechard Hall, University of Ibadan, the outgoing President of the Union, Covenant Odedele, delivered his Handover speech, alongside the UISU Vision 2030.

Covenant Odedele, in his handover speech, thanked the University management for their support. He expressed immense gratitude for their parental care in attending to students’ issues.

He advised the incoming executive, the Diligence Team led by Adeboye Temidayo, to “be committed to succeed”. He encouraged them to be cautious of public opinion in the allocation of resources and decision-making. Also, he enlightened them that, while they “can inherit the friends of your predecessors, they should never inherit their enemies”. In addition to the “intellectual” kind of students’ unionism of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union, he cautioned them that, while “it’s important to know that the weapon of non-cooperation and boycott is important, it should be the last option”.

In addition, following his handover speech, he presented the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Vision 2030 (UISU VISION 2030), which is a 5-year strategic vision for the University of Ibadan Students’ Union from 2026 to 2030. The vision, according to him, is to guide how the Union is to be managed and its objectives for the next five years, before it is reviewed. He promised to make a copy of the vision accessible for public perusal.
