On Thursday, 23rd September, the University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU) held a gyration for the students as part of the events for the SU week.
The gyration held at the SUB Foyer witnessed a multitude of students who came to entertain themselves by dancing solely–and with their partners– to some sweet music.
Our correspondent, however, observed that the event held in total disregard to the Covid-19 protocols, especially that of social distancing as the Foyer wasn’t capacious enough to house the large turnout of students. This occurred despite the SU Executives’ insistence that COVID-19 Protocols would be abide with.
The reactions got from the students as regards the event showed that some of them were more concerned on the fun the event brought rather than on the health issues that could emerge.
Olabiyi Idris said: “It was eventful… It was fun and it will resonate in the minds of all UItes for a very long time to come.”
Phillips Misturah opined: “It was good to an extent. Of course, it’s for the whole school so as expected it was crowded. People here and there…The MC made it all lively and also the DJ. It was fun but the Asun which was hyped didn’t reach (they should have planned it well”.
Oluwabukunmi Oladapo, a student said he would give the SU Executives 7.5/10 for the gyration night. “It was well planned and the hypemen were quite lively. The DJ was on fire. The issues I have is the venue, the blatant ignore for Covid-19 protocols and the performing artistes. We could have used a bigger venue and a better raised platform for stage. No one was at the entrances to ensure that nose masks were used. The performing artistes were really poor. We have people like Achezzy, Dark Gold and ASO who the crowd could have really vibed to but… Anyway, they tried, but things could have been a lot better”
