FUOYE Suffers 1-0 loss to UI Pioneers in Monieball 5-a-side Football Competition

The University of Ibadan Pioneers defeated the Federal University of Oye, Ekiti (FUOYE) 1-0 in the second matchday for the Monieball 5-a-side inter-university football competition. The game started at exactly 5:15 pm. on Thursday, 15 October 2025.

The thrilling game started with high intensity. In the seventh minute of the game, a player from the Federal University of Oye, Ekiti, was sent out of the field with a red card offence.
The first goal of the game came in the fourteenth minute, with Heskeyman finding the net from the UI half.


UI Pioneers continued a possessive game, capitalising on the absence of a full FUOYE team.
The UI Pioneers put all fans on their feet after a shot from Heskeyman hit the crossbar before it was parried out of the field by the FUOYE goalkeeper. Another shot from Mbappe was blocked by a FUOYE defender. The first half ended with the UI Pioneers leading the FUOYE team 1-0.


The second half kicked off with FUOYE pushing under pressure to score a goal despite having a man down. FUOYE pulled the first trigger in the second half on the 28th minute with a shot that was just wide of the post. FUOYE had another shot blocked by Heskeyman in the 30th minute. Mbappe released a shot in the 32nd minute, which was easily picked by the FUOYE goalkeeper. The game continued with little trouble at both goalposts until the 40th minute when Mbappe’s shot went off the crossbar.


UI Pioneers continued the game with a possessive football, giving the FUOYE team no chance at the ball. FUOYE continued with pressure, taking shots at the UI goalpost, but Olami was able to stop the shot from entering at the 48th minute. Another shot from the FUOYE team in the 50th minute scared the UI fans, but the shot went far wide. UI got a chance at the 50+1 minute, but Mujeeb, the Pioneer Captain, was unable to find the back of the net.


The match ended with Heskeyman’s lone goal, securing the man of the match for the day. The University of Ibadan Male football team had earlier won their first game of the tournament in their Matchday 1 encounter with Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, winning 2-1 at full-time.
