Four weeks in Office, the Good…

At exactly 7:00pm on the 29th June, 2019, the Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde had a media chat based on his first thirty days in office at the Broadcasting corporation of Oyo state. He was interviewed by three reknowed journalists namely: Dare Adekanbi of the Nigerian Tribune, Iyabo Okanlawon of FRCN and Ajibola Akinyefa of Lagelu FM, the media chat was moderated by Kunle Juniad . The Governor as usual maintained a calm countenance all through the chat, addressing questions asked both in English and Youruba language.

The Governor spoke on so many issues pertaining to debts, education, sanitation, workers salary, road transport workers. He also spoke about a debt of a hundred and fifty billion naira he inherited as he assumed office however, what amazes everyone is that workers salaries was paid exactly on the 25th of June as he promised during the electioneering period. This has not happened in Oyo state for quite some time and the question to ponder on is “Is this really an era of new rain?”

The beginning of every administration is always “sweet” and politicians always endeavour to make a lasting impression on the people with swift action and “drama” which always fade off after 2-3 years in office. The Governor spoke critically on value for the people of Oyo State. It is too early to draw conclusions on the actions of this adminstration which so much hope has been placed upon. We’ll continue to watch as things unfold hopefully for the better in Oyo state.

Workers are key players and determinants of the success of any adminstration. If their salaries are paid in time and they are respected they will give their utmost support to ensure success for such adminstration. It’s obvious Engineer Seyi Makinde has identified with this fact and he doesn’t want to make the mistakes made by his predecessor. The next seventy days matter as the good people of Oyo state are eager for more positive results. Engineer Seyi Makinde should not forget that to whom much is given, much is expected.
