The Faculty of Technology held its induction ceremony for new graduates on Wednesday the 9th of April at the Large Lecture Theater, Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan.
The induction ceremony started with the academic procession and the singing of the National and school anthem.
An opening speech was given by the dean of the Faculty of Technology, Professor Bamgbose which was followed by an address by the Chief Host, Professor J.O Adebowale.
He congratulated the inductees and stated that the induction was a thing of pride but they should take each step with humility.
He stated that Engineering isn’t just about what has been taught in class but the outside world and what can be learnt from there.
He adviced them to continue to “seek knowledge, collaborate and stay ethical”.
The keynote speech was given by Mrs Bukola Adubi, the CEO of MCcom Cables and Wires, who adviced the newly inducted Engineers to have a problem solving mindset and think outside the box.
She encouraged them to have hands on experience in the world of Engineering and stay abreast of the technologies.
“You hold the key to driving this transformation. The problems are many, but the opportunities are greater. The MNSE are ready to support you, the industry is eager to collaborate with you and the nation is watching and waiting, hoping” she said.
After the keynote speech, the inductees according to their departments were asked to rise for identification and they were introduced to the Nigerian Society of Engineers
Another lecture was held by Engineer Dr. Anthony Adeniji, an alumni of the department of Wood Production Engineering who taught on how to be a problem solver for Nigeria.
The oath taking ceremony was moderated by the representative of the Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers after which prizes were given to outstanding students.
The prize for the Overall Best Graduating Student (Male) was given to Matthias and Matthew Busoye from the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering as they graduated with a CGPA of 3.94, while the the prize for Overall Best Graduating Student (Female) was given to Oseni Latifat Omolara from the department of Industrial and Productions Engineering, having graduated with a CGPA of 3.82.
Other prizes were given by different affiliates of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (Ibadan Chapter) to the best graduating students of their respective departments.
Also, the Association of Female Professional Engineers awarded all the Best graduating female students of every department.
The ceremony ended with an address from the best graduating students, Matthias and Matthew Busoye and an address from the erstwhile president of the faculty of Technology, Shonibare
