Mothers, obviously known, are agents of procreation. This can be likened to Educators who also produce professionals in different fields of the world. Educators in all spheres of life are meant to procreate – train and nourish- students to become who they aspire to be. Apart from that, mothers are known to have more experiences and skills than their children. It was this that the students of the Faculty of Education showed other faculties in the varsity.

It was a moment of joy when the Faculty of Education accumulated over six awards at the just concluded Students’ Union week.

At first, the faculty was awarded the best faculty in the inter-faculty sports competition having amassed 49 gold medals, 47 silver medals and 31 bronze medals. It could be deduced that the participants from the faculty exercised the spirit of teamwork and diligence.

On the 25th of September,2021, the joy of educators was boundless. This was resultant of the numerous awards received on the aforementioned date. The awards ranged from the best faculty president to sports, creative writing, among others.

To start with, Jude Nicholas, the NUESA President, emerged as the Best Faculty President. The NUESA Sports Director, Lizzy Sports who is from Adult Education bagged the Sportsman of the Year for the female category.

To cap it all, two students from the faculty were recipients of Mr and Miss UI awards. Mr UI award to Anthony while Miss UI award to Promise Oshinyemi. The former from Library, Archival and Information Studies and the latter from Arts and Social Sciences Education.

Unarguably, this is a display of a mother’s experience and seniority over her children. One of the students of the faculty had it as an opinion that “Faculty of Education in UI is like Lagos state in Nigeria– home of champions and the centre of excellence.”

These wins have brought glory and honour not only to those who received them but also to the entire faculty. The awardees have proven themselves to the varsity that the Faculty of Education has potentials that can be beckoned by the school when the need arises.
