The Faculty of Arts has emerged winner at the 12th edition of the Lanre Bello Inter-faculty debate which was held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the First Bank building, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan.
The annual public speaking competition which is organized by the University of Ibadan Chapter of the Junior Chambers International (JCI) was centered on Nigeria’s Future and Education system with the theme: The future of Nigerian educational system: Is Privatization of The Educational Sector The Solution to the Education Pandemic?
Unlike the past years, this year’s Inter-Faculty contest featured two categories: the debate competition for faculties seasoned speakers and the rookies oratory contests. Two speakers each were invited to represent their faculties. The participating faculties are: Faculties of Technology, Veterinary Medicine, Environmental Management, Social Sciences, Arts, Law, Pharmacy, Renewable Natural Resources, Science, Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, Education, Agriculture and Basic Medical Sciences, Public Health, and Economics.
The representatives of the Faculty of Arts, Okunsanya Goodness and Yetunde Osansanya won with a total of 73.05% followed by the Faculties of Science and Basic Medical Sciences (BMLS) as the first and second runner’s up respectively.
The speaker from the Faculty of Clinical Science, Amarachi Nwaigwe was awarded the Best Speaker for the debate category, while Obisesan Adewunmi of the Faculty of Economics won the Best Orator Award.
