Energy Club, SPE UI Host Ambizero Conference 2.0

The Energy Club, University of Ibadan, in collaboration with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), University of Ibadan Student Chapter, successfully hosted the Ambizero Conference 2.0 on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the KAAF Auditorium, Human Nutrition, University of Ibadan.

The conference, themed “Powering the Future: Multi-Dimensional Solutions for a Smart and Sustainable Energy World,” brought together experts, students, and industry professionals to discuss pressing issues in the energy sector, pertaining to climate change.

The event commenced with an HSE briefing by Hamdalat Bisiriyu from SPE, followed by opening remarks from Oziligbo Jessica, President of the Energy Club, University of Ibadan Student Chapter.

The keynote speaker, Rosario Osobase, Managing Director of Tenaris Nigeria, delivered a compelling speech emphasizing the need for a sustainable energy future.

She highlighted the importance of systems thinking, digital fluency, and purpose-driven leadership in shaping the future of energy.

Osobase stressed that students from various backgrounds have a crucial role to play in shaping future energy regulations, advocating for climate justice, and promoting energy-efficient systems.

“We are not just students, we are solution architects,” she emphasized.

The conference also featured a sponsorship speech by Vaughn Energy Services Limited, followed by the presentation of awards to the keynote speaker and sponsorship speaker.

The icebreaker session fostered collaboration and teamwork among attendees, while the giveaway and teabreak sessions provided opportunities for networking.

The panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Princess Nwankwo, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Petroleum Engineering, addressed critical issues such as climate change, energy transition, and the role of young people in environmental advocacy.

The panelists emphasized the need for a balanced approach to energy transition, optimizing fossil fuel processes, and promoting renewable energy sources.

The conference also included an oratory competition for secondary schools, where students from The International School, University of Ibadan, Abadina College, and IQ Academy participated.

IQ Academy emerged as the winner, followed by ISI and Abadina College in the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.

Other highlights of the conference included the elevator pitch session, financial literacy session, and exhibition,l. The event concluded with the Closing remarks led by the President of SPE.
