Eight Professors In The Race To Become UI Acting VC

Except for change of plans, eight senior professors at the University of Ibadan are being considered to act as the vice-chancellor, OYOINSIGHT reports.

One of them would be picked to act as the VC for a period of six months.

It has become mandatory for the university to have an acting VC following the alleged irregularities in the selection process of the next VC.

There had also been reports that Prof Olayinka whose tenure as VC expires today is guilty of allegedly favouring his deputy, Prof Kayode Adebowale as his successor.

When the crises that trailed the selection process became tensed, the NUC stepped in directing the university’s governing council to an acting VC and also restart the selection process.

The eight senior professors in the race include:  Francis Egbokhare, Adigun Agbaje, Kunle Fagbemi, Kassey Garba—a former economic adviser to the former president Goodluck Jonathan, Ayo Oluleye—a former dean of technology and a professor of industrial engineering, Gbemisola Oke—a professor of dentistry and a one-time DVC (Academic), Niyi Gbadegesin—the immediate past VC of the Ladoke Akinsola University of Technology, LAUTECH and Ambrose Ayelari—former deputy vice-chancellor DVC (administration) and served as VC for about three months in 2015.
