By Pelumi King

Welcome to another episode of who is better? Last week, we talked about Rema and Fireboy. Two incredible but very distinct artistes. If you have not read the last article, you still can. On today’s episode of who is better, we will be comparing and contrasting between two of Nigeria’s finest rappers, Dremo and Ycee.

Just a few weeks back, shortly before the release of his album. A comparison was drawn between Ycee and Dremo. Some viewed it as a tactic by twitter influencers to promote his new album but an argument between Dremo and Ycee fans broke out online each vehemently defending their favourite artistes. Davido aka OBO also leaped to the support of his record of his record label mate. The question still remains who is the better rapper?

Dremo

Dremo is a fantastic rapper. He burst out on the Nigerian music scene with his hit single “Fela”. Aborionoh Femi Raymond aka Dremo is currently signed to Davido’s worldwide Music record label aka DMW. He has been something like an alternative force in the rapping game. Apart from being a rapper, he is also a songwriter, record producer. He even sings in most of his singles. Dremo has been nominated for many awards and has won some of them. His awards include City People Music Award for Rookie of the year, City People Music award for Rap Album of the year and Nigerian Teen Choice award for choice new hip hop act 2016.  He has 6 albums to his name, Memoirs of a Go Getta, Supernada Deluxe, Icen B4 the cake, the protégé, Codename, Vol 1 and the recently released one Codename Vol 2.

Dremo is very unique in his style of music. He is also very versatile and can adapt into any form of music.

Ycee

Oludemilade Martin Alejo aka Ycee is an incredible rapper, songwriter and singer. Although he had gained some recognition when he released Condo in which he featured Patoranking. What really “blew” him was his single Jagaban. The single was a massive hit in Nigeria and some other parts of the world. The remix of the song featuring Olamide was even as hot as the first. It was like the street national anthem for some time. The slang name Jagaban became a popular name and the real owner of the name Bola Ahmed Tinubu even became more popular.  After that he went on to release many other hit singles which included Omo Alhaji and its remix, Su mi, Panda Cover, Link up featuring Reekado Banks, Juice featuring Maleek Berry and many other hit singles. He has also been nominated for multiple awards and won some of them. The biggest of them being Best Artist in African Pop which he won at the 2015 All Africa Music awards. His style of music is unique and can also adapt into any form of music.

These two artistes are magnificent, versatile and multi-talented. Both have contributed and are still contributing to the Nigerian Music industry. Who is better?  It is left for you to decide.
