DEAR MR. PRESIDENT…

‘A promise made is a debt unpaid’, according to Robert W. Service, is one sentence that will forever remain pertinent, at least to those of us who value decent, deep, and definite relations. Recently, our very own association President sent words that he is not pleased with one of the articles on the Press Board, ‘they have started again!..’, he expressed.

Certainly, when departmental executives become unnecessarily paranoid then, there is a big reason to be bothered. Asking that executives be accountable to the association is a routine check on the activities and excesses of the executives. There really has not been an appropriate congress that will keep the association abreast of both past and forth-coming events as well as an avenue for students to express their concerns as it relates to the association. When students attend congresses, they get first-hand opportunities to understanding what an association of students does, this way those with the genuine interests of running the association in the future would not only be well-informed, their interest would also be well-garnered. It is no longer news that most political aspirants around the university are lily-livered and morally washed-out, this department cannot afford to always follow suit.

Now, most of the promises made by some of the executives during the press night are still awaiting implementation. The press especially was promised maximum support; all it has gotten is partial support, not that this affected its functioning – the press has always survived all manner of obstacles. It is no one’s fault if your plans change in the course of the semester…as long as you do not forget those promises you made while soliciting for votes, there is need to convince us that the students’ best interest remains paramount!

Accordingly, having a Literary and Debating Society in the department would go a very long way in grooming students both academically and socially… The debate competition that held last semester between Philosophy and Law students should never have been so disturbingly humiliating… Some of our 100L students would have performed exceptionally well in the last examinations.

Dear Mr. President, the press is not trying to mar or exhibit your administration as what it is not, the obvious is only being stated. Bi omo eni ba dara ka wi, roughly translating in English to ‘if one’s child is of good behaviour, let’s say so’.
