The Council of Hall Chairpersons, University of Ibadan, has sent out a notification of the proposed increment in basic hall dues from 3000 naira to 5000 naira to the Student Representative Council, University of Ibadan, on March 30, 2025.
The proposed #2,000 increment was made due to the “rising maintenance costs, improved hall services, and the need to enhance the overall welfare of students in their respective halls”.
The Council hopes to discuss this proposal with the Student Representative Council to present their reasons, address concerns, and explore measures to make the increment justifiable and beneficial.
They also stated in the memorandum that the current fees has not been able to meet some “essential expense like sanitation, security and other infrastructural maintenance”
This memorandum was duly signed by Nafisat Anifowose, Chairperson, COHC UI, and Adenekan Adeifeoluwa, Secretary, COHC UI.
It should be noted that this proposal is coming at a time when there is an ongoing struggle against the hike in school fees which the members of this Council have been a part of , and also at a time when students are dealing with other expenses and the high cost of living in Nigeria.
