IFE STYLE“We focus a lot on what life can give us neglecting what we can give to life and we end up getting little or nothing”- A.O Adejimi.
“what can you do for us” This is one of the questions that a lot of us have been asked for times without numbers, a question that many young people are yet to find an answer to, a question that we will face in the outside world, and a question that needs answer whether we have one or not. As youths, we enjoy the privilege of being given almost all we want and sometimes, need. Because of this, we forget about the flaws and strengths of the outside world, we neglect activities that can give us the opportunity of contributing our quota to the development of humanity. We neglect what we can do for humanity
What can you offer us? You have the strength of Hercules and the brains of Aristotle but you rather use these attributes to rob humanity of its wealth through crime. Cyber crimes, 419 and other intellectual and power crimes are all you think of, how you will rob a vulnerable old man or woman of the money in his/her account is always on your mind. For how long will you continue to rob humanity? For how long will you continue to deprive humanity of development through the power and knowledge that you possess? No excuse given will ever be enough to cover your sins. What can you offer us apart from your tactics of Cyber Robbery?
What can you offer us? Lady Debby is a high class miss in Idia. A beauty queen in her early twenties, endowed with flashy eyes that can make any man fall, a well carved body, a voice like that of a nightingale, a woman that every guy wants to date and a beauty with brains. She is however, a body hawker. Larry, Bayo, Fred and many other guys have claimed her as a trophy of visiting a night club or as a souvenir of a birthday party. Is she not offering services to humanity? Of course she is. At least, some guys are rescued from sex starving. Thanks to her generosity. She offers services to humanity in a way though, not positively. Now, I am getting serious, what can you offer us apart from your body if you fall into the category of people like Miss Debby? What positive changes can you bring to Humanity? In what way can you make life better for people even at this tender age?
What can you offer us? Wole is a student politician, an Ex-Assistant General Secretary of his department students’ association, a former treasurer of his state’s students’ association, and at present, the president of his faculty students’ association. Though decorated with an attracting political history, he didn’t contest for the positions because he loved his people, he contested because he loves his pocket and also want a “loaded” CV. It is sad. Isn’t it? You may be Wole or someone like him, it is never too late to make positive change.
What can you offer us? Alade Olamide is an intelligent young man. Though young, handsome and with brains, he sees no reason why he should help any of his class mates academically. “I am here for myself and nobody else” he always thought. He hoards materials, keeps his researches away from his friends, wants to be second to nobody, always interested in being lecturer’s favourite and wants nothing less than a 70. What he doesn’t know however is that, whatever knowledge you share can never leave you. Knowledge is not like money or a soup in a big pot that decreases as soon as you start sharing it. Perhaps, you are like Olamide now, are you willing to turn a new leaf? You have to realize that helping people does not earn you respect alone but also earn you help. I am sorry if I sound like a preacher but that is the fact. “What goes around comes around”. Ask yourself the “what can I offer Humanity” question today and you will be surprised that you can help Humanity in so many ways.
Many times, it is always hard to invest all our resources into helping Humanity especially as students due to reasons like; availability of limited or no time, the stress that accompanies school work among other reasons. According to an anonymous author however, “if you love it, you will find a way, if you do not love it, you find an excuse”. Since service to Humanity is not optional, we have to love it which means we will have to find a way of doing it and not an excuse for not doing it.
Someone once asked me a hard but helpful question once. It is hard because you can’t give a very quick answer to it and it is helpful because it helps you to set a vision of how you want to spend your life. The question is; “WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL BE WRITTEN ON YOUR EPITAPH IF YOU DIE TODAY?” You don’t have a quick answer to that. Do you? A question like “WILL I BE MISSED IF I LEAVE WHERE I AM AT PRESENT OR DIE?” will also go a long way in giving you reasons why your help must be rendered to humanity. Just help, your help does not have to be big or widely publicized. You should not even care about people appreciating what you do or not.
Gracias.
