On the 8th of November at the 8th emergency plenary of the UI’SRC, Hon. Olanrewaju Basit Olatunde, the chairman of the Disciplinary committee of the Union, while making his presentation of the disciplinary committee finding, made his reply to a UCJ article brought to the notice of the house.
The article, which was released earlier today, bordered on the posting of what was adjudged the campaign flier of the SU AGS, Emmanuel Olawoye, by the Disciplinary Committee head on his WhatsApp status and how it called into question the issue of impartiality or the mere appearance of it.
The attention of the council was first raised to the article on the floor of the SRC by Hon Oladele Samuel, an Honourable from Alexander Brown Hall constituency, who framed it as an attempt by the press to slander the person of the disciplinary committee chairman and also an intrusion into his privacy.
When asked to make a comment on that by the speaker, Hon Basit, said the concern raised by the article was unfounded, since the WhatsApp post was made long after the investigation was concluded and the report submitted to the speaker of the council.
He further stated that he did not chair the committee when the case of the AGS was handled by the committee and this he said was what he felt was in line with the legal maxim, Nemo judex in causa sua, which requires one not to be judge in an issue that they enjoy a vested interest in.
“I find it unfounded and I state that what I posted on my status did not at any point affect the decision of the committee ” He said.
