The Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Lehmann was in the University of Ibadan today, Wednesday 24th of August, 2016. He was specifically at the Faculty of the Social Sciences where he had an interactive session with students of the Political Science Department.
The interactive session was geared towards familiarising the final year students with the educational possibilities available to them in Australia.
He talked extensively on the good relationship Nigeria had had with Australia in the past and expressed high hopes in the possibility of a stronger bond between both countries. He also talked about the contributions Australia has made towards improving Agricultural research in Nigeria with particular reference to IITA and how they’ve contributed to its funding.
When asked if there were any financial assistance for Nigerian students intending to study in Australia, his answer was in the affirmative. However, he stated that financial assistance available were very modest ones which might come in form of scholarships.

In attendance was the Dean of the faculty of the Social Sciences, Prof A. S. Jegede, the Director, Directorate of Public Affairs, University of Ibadan, Mr Tunde Oladejo (who was also the moderator for the day). Present also was the Head, Political Science Department, Prof. I. V. Isumonah, former Head of Department, Political Science, Prof O.B.C Nwolise as well as other notable members of staff of the Political Science Department.
