ASUU Directs Members to Join NLC Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has on Monday directed members across the country to join the two-day warning strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress over what was described as the failure of the Tinubu-led government to dialogue and engage stakeholders within the organized labour on efforts to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

Following the one-day protest held in August, the union has directed all unions of workers to join the two-day nationwide warning strike to demonstrate the union’s readiness for an indefinite strike later in the month.

According to a reliable source, ASUU National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed this noting that the union is an affiliate of the NLC and would act according to the directive.

A memo addressed from the Bayero University Chapter of ASUU executives to the members also confirmed this.

“Dear Members, as you are aware, the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, in its meeting held on 31st August, 2023 has declared a two-day warning strike from Tuesday 5th to Wednesday 6th September, 2023. ASUU, being an affiliate of the NLC has resolved to join the strike action.

“Consequently, members are urged to fully comply with this directive,” the memo reads.
