ASPIRANTS PLAN TO BOYCOTT STUDENTS’ UNION ELECTION

students-union-govtThe 2014/2015 Students’ Union election aspirants have decided to boycott the elections scheduled for May 16, 2015.

According to the letter received from the “concerned Students’ leaders” on May 13, 2015 at about 3:30 pm, which read thus:

“We the aspirants in the upcoming students union election write to inform you that we have agreed to the postponement of the upcoming students union elections scheduled to hold on the 16th of May 2015 in the interest of our union as a result of the following issues:

1. Demand for a reviewed Constitution as regards the electoral committee composition and electoral processes.

2. Counting of election results at the various halls of residence.

3. Improved welfarism of students on campus.”

A meeting was conveyed by the “concerned Students’ leaders” where all aspirants were made to attest to the boycott of the upcoming election. The meeting which lasted through the night and ended in the early hours of Wednesday May 13, 2015 did not only discuss the upcoming election but also discussed about the welfare of the students especially the health facility which led to the death of one of the students Alaran Mayowa last week.

All aspirants except the following signed the letter.

Okeke Fidelis an aspirant for the post of Assistant General Secretary; Adedigbe Afeez Adedayo an aspirant for the post of Public Relations Officer; Adelore David an aspirant for the post of sport secretary; Adekoya Damilola M an aspirant for the post of sport secretary with the excuse of being absent.
