The University of Ibadan management has released modalities for securing accommodation at Halls of Residence for the remaining part of 2020/2021 academic session.
The 2-page document, signed by the Dean of Students of the institution, Prof. I. A Abiona, provides the procedures for obtaining accommodation at the halls of residence with emphasis on accommodation being offered on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The document provides for Assignment of Fresh Students to Halls of Residence, Expression of Interest and Eligibility, Payment of Accommodation Fee, Access to Halls of Residence, and other requirements for residing in Halls of Residence.
The document provides the categories of people that will be considered for accommodation to include: 100 level students, Final year students, Physically challenged/health students, 300 level Pre-Clinical students, Nursing students due for professional examinations, and Veterinary medicine students due for professional examinations.
Expression of interest will last between May 31st to June 2nd but only eligible student will be allowed to express interest in securing accommodation. However, “the period for the expression of interest may be abridged once the quota for each of this category of students is filled” the document reads in part.
This came 8 days after the UISU Congress was held to determine a way forward for the N30,000 accommodation levy for the remaining part of the 2020/2021 academic session.
Recall that the outcome of the UISU Congress was that if management fails to rescind its decision of N30,000 accommodation levy, the students should “keep begging,” “make sure accommodation opportunity is not removed” and embark on “constructive/ online protest”
In a WhatsApp chat with the Deputy Dean of Students, Dr. Demola Lewis, concerning the stipulated accommodation levy and the fate of students, he stated that the Senate will meet to consider to give a final verdict on the accommodation fee.
