Aremu Goodness, Others Emerge Winners of 2025 Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition

Aremu Goodness, Editor-in-Chief of Kuti Hall Press, has emerged winner of the 2025 Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition organized by the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI), during its 5-in-1 event held on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

The presentation of the award was anchored by Mr. Sunday Oguntola, Online Editor at The Nation Newspaper, the Union’s Editorial Adviser, and sponsor of the essay competition.

Omofala Samuel of Law Press and Oluwatomilayo Osuolale of Queen’s Hall Press emerged second and third respectively. Their essays, written under the theme “Tribe, Tongue, and Territory: Can Nigeria Truly Overcome Its Identity Crisis?”, were commended for their originality, clarity, and depth of thought.

Speaking after receiving the award, Aremu expressed his appreciation for the recognition.

“It’s a privilege to be the winner of this year’s edition. I had the opportunity to voice my opinion and give suggestions on how Nigeria can overcome its identity crisis. Special thanks to the sponsor for the nice initiative and the UCJ, UI at large,” he said.

In their remarks, the winners expressed gratitude and surprise at the recognition, describing it as a motivation to further pursue excellence and integrity in journalism.
