All Nigerian United Nations Students and Youths Association, University of Ibadan (ANUNSA UI) presents “Political Conference 2019”. The conference is set to hold on Thursday 24th January, 2019 at the Alumni Hall, behind Alumni Centre, University of Ibadan, starting promptly by 11am. The 2019 edition is themed- “The Power of Your Vote”. This is in preparation for the next general elections in February, 2019.
The Association deems it fit to hold a conference that would lead conversations among residents of Oyo State as regarding the elections. This is in line with one of the association’s aims which is to cultivate, as a matter of duty, amongst Nigeria students and youths an objective outlook on National and International issues.
This conference is geared towards ensuring a free and fair election as well as to uphold the primary basis of election which is to make elected officials accountable to the people as they must return to the voters at prescribed intervals to continue in office.
The conference will have two sessions.
The first is a session for the conference lectures. There will be a keynote lecture, to be delivered by Barrister Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, Oyo Resident Electoral Commissioner. This will be followed by a panel discussions. Some of the panelists are; Mr Gboyega Tokunbo, Dr S. A Lafenwa, Mr Alabi Kayode, Mr Adeoye Adejare and Hon. Adedapo Olakunle.
There will also be a guest lecture to be delivered by Prince Segun Akanni, a media expert and the Chief of Staff to Iba Gani Adams (Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba Land). He will speak on the topic- “The Role of the Media in Ensuring that the Votes of the People Count”.
The second session is to afford the great people of Oyo State to get to know the plans of those aspiring to come in as their governor. This is not a debate. It is structured as a short talk on their manifestos. This will let people juxtapose the manifestos of the candidates.
Members of the public are highly invited to come and hear from Mr Akinwale Omololu Laosun (AAC), Senator Olufemi Lanlehin(ADC), Chief Adebayo Adelabu(APC), Princess Mrs Bolanle Ashabi Sarumi Aliyu(NIP), Engr Seyi Makinde(PDP), Barrister Sharafadeen Alli(ZLP) and others gubernatorial candidates.
The conference will have in attendance not only students but also politicians, market leaders, religious leaders, business men, traders, pensioners, artisans, the Hausa community and all other sections of people in Oyo state. It is an event not to miss.
The host for the event is the notable Mayor Isaac Brown of Fresh FM.
