– Macbeth

Ladies and gentlemen, Stalites and Freshers of the great Unibadan, gather ’round as we embark on a satirical journey into the mind of Alamu, a new 100 level law student who believes that school life is nothing but rainbows, unicorns, and endless fun. Alamu already has a long list of fun plans, neatly written behind one of his lecture notes, but no, we won’t be talking about those plans. Was Alamu able to achieve them, you will find out at the end of this short piece. Brace yourselves for a side-splitting exploration of the harsh truth that awaits our naive protagonist!

Alamu, a young man whose dream is to become a lawyer, was among the first students to resume. Full of enthusiasm and dreams of a rosy academic adventure, Alamu was beaming with a wide grin on his fresh face as he moved his baggage to A45, Tedder Hall. Little did he know that lurking behind the shiny facade of Unibadan campus life was a whirlwind of stressful lectures, deadlines, exams, and sleepless nights.

Alamu’s first day of lecture was nothing short of a comedy sketch. With a wide grin, he strutted through Law LLT, sat at the very front of the hall, blissfully unaware of the impending avalanche of assignments and group projects that would soon come crashing down upon him. Oh, how we wish we could have captured that moment of pure innocence!

As the days went by, Alamu’s enthusiasm began to wane. The once bright smile turned into a permanent grimace, and the skip in his step transformed into a slow shuffle of exhaustion. It was as if a cruel prank had been played on him by the educational gods, leaving him to question his sanity.

Alamu’s encounters with various courses and professors were like scenes from a tragicomedy. From the professor who assigned a mountain of readings on the first day, to impromptu tests, to the classmates who never replied to group chat messages, every twist and turn seemed to add another layer of stress to our poor protagonist’s life.

But fear not, dear readers, for amidst the chaos, Alamu stumbled upon a secret weapon: caffeine. Armed with an arsenal of energy drinks, Nescafe coffee shots, and midnight snacks, he bravely faced the sleepless nights and early morning classes. If only he had known that sleep deprivation was an integral part of the Unibadan student initiation!

In the end, our dear Alamu emerged from his freshman year, battle-scarred and wiser. Alamu is now a 200 level Law student of the prestigious Faculty of Law, Unibadan. With a newfound appreciation for the struggles of school life, he realized that stress and challenges were inevitable companions on the road to success. So, let us raise a bottle of fanta to Alamu, the freshman who thought school life was a walk in the park, only to discover it was more like a marathon through a minefield of stress!
