PROFESSOR JAYEOBA DELIVERS HER INAUGURAL LECTURE

On Thursday, 18th Oct, 2018, at the renowned Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, an inaugural lecture was given by Prof. Olufunmilayo Jayeoba, on behalf of the Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education. The event was graced with some dignitaries not excluding the varsity’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Abel Olayinka, Dean of Faculty of Education, Prof Julius Ademokoya, deans of other faculties and other key officials. Good to hear is the fact that the Inaugural Lecture was the 3rd of its kind from Eduucational Management from the Faculty of Education.

Professor Jayeoba who addressed the lecture titled, The keys to institutional success, lamented the inefficiency of the Nigeria’s education system. According to her, lack of capacity training program, poor supervision, inadequate funding are few of the challenges facing the nation’s education system.

She enunciated a need for a turn around in the educational system to give Nigerian schools a worthy appraisal across the nations all over the world. The way to do that according to the Professor of Educational Management is through proper management. “Managers are not born but they are trained.”, she hinted.

The speaker of the day pin-pointed the core points and issues needed to be addressed concerning this Nations educational system at every level. Her speech was undoubtedly saturated with facts and truths which awarded her a befitting appraisal from the audience. She mentioned some factors that aid in achieving success in Education management: implementation of educational policies, record keeping, supervision, Tertiary Education Reforms, among others.

Professor Jayeoba concluded her lecture by making some recommendations on improving the education system. She recommended that the country should adopt the introduction of basic management course and encourage full participation of stakeholders in the sysyte. She also called on teachers and students alike to be more diligent.
