Jedidiah Temitope, a Public Relations Officer (PRO) aspirant of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU), has pledged to prioritise factual reporting and accountability to students over the interests of university management if elected.
During the UI’SU Press Night’26, she was questioned on how she would generate funds through her office. She said she planned to use previously adopted methods and leverage opportunities from brands that approach the Union.
Asked how she would respond if her allegiance were questioned in a situation where the Union and university management disagreed, Jedidiah said she owed students a factual account of events.
“In a situation where the university has outrightly rejected the demands of the students, I owe them a factual report,” she said, adding that her role would be to report events as they happened rather than take sides.
She was further asked whether she was seeking to represent students or manage their perception of the Students’ Union, and how she would ensure she did not become a public relations agent for university management.
“I am running to disseminate information truly to students,” she replied.
Reaffirming her position, she said her allegiance, as provided for in the Union’s constitution, was not to university management.
“I am giving a spoken statement by assuring the members of the press present and the entire student body watching me live that I will not be a UI PRO to the UI management but an accountable PRO to the UI students,” she said.
