“I’M NOT PROUD”, SAYS MISS AFRICANA
TEMILADE ADESIYAN WURAOLA, is not just a model; she is a woman who loves fashion, and also a scholar. Join us in this chat with the incumbent Miss Africana, Queen Idia hall and she exposes a part of her identity.
QIP: Many know you as Temilade, some as Temmy, what else can we know about you?
Miss Africana: hmm, I’m a 200L Botany student, Faculty of science. I hail from Oyo state, I’m a fashionista and love schooling. I chat a lot, I play basket ball for my pastime and I love making new friends.
QIP: How would you define your personality as you are?
Miss Africana: I’m always on a low key, I don’t make trouble, I go on my own and I’m not so hard to be friends with.
QIP: Are you enjoying your ceremonial position?
Miss Africana: (laughs) oh- sure, sure, what’s there to say, it’s just the fame…Miss Africana here….Miss Africana there
QIP: Would you consider the contest fair?
Miss Africana: yeah, it was. Though it was challenging, I was contestant no 3 and I didn’t know any of the judges; they were outsiders, I didn’t think I would win but I thank God because I thought I was going to back out some time (thanks to my friends and supporters) and even despite my busy schedule, I mean tests and all, I still bagged the envious position.
QIP: What really distinguished you among other contestants?
Miss Africana: Well, I think I was just different, because while others were just doing normal dancing and dancing, I engaged my talent and performed a short dance drama about a typical Yoruba family which wowed the audience and judges; and I got it.
QIP: What is the weirdest thing you’ve heard people say about you?
Miss Africana: hmm (scoffs), that I’m proud (which I’m not, because you can’t judge a book by its cover)
QIP: Who really is a woman? And would you consider yourself one?
Miss Africana: hmm, (smiles), let’s see, a woman is one with female characteristics who is respectful, humble, tolerant and that can cook well. And yeah, I’m good at what I do. I’m proudly a woman.
QIP: What is Queen Idia hall to you?
Miss Africana: Queen Idia hall is the best female hall at UI. It’s just like home away from home; I mean the friends everywhere, the awesome hall warden and so on. If I will ever recommend any hall, Idia hall will always be my only choice.
QIP: How well do you combine your position and studies?
Miss Africana: it doesn’t really affect me. Most occasions that I have to grace, fall on weekends when I don’t often have classes.
QIP: Okay, so should the ‘handsomes’ start applying or is there any lucky guy yet?
Miss Africana: I’m single but not searching. I love my stress-free life o. no boyfriend, no worries. I just love my single life now. You have your day to yourself, you don’t have to go to Idia gate at night, no worries-no worries.
QIP: What is the most important thing to you as a woman?
Miss Africana: Our African culture is so important to me.
Our heritage should not to abandoned at the altar of
modernization. I’m saying this even to all Idiates
that our culture is our pride. And we endeavour to be African in
all we do because it is our unique identity.
QIP: Is there any word of advice you have for Idiates and upcoming contestants for Miss Africana position?
Miss Africana: yeah, I will say that no matter your challenges or in any situation you might find yourself in life, DON’T GIVE UP.
QIP: thank you for your audience; it’s been great speaking with you
Miss Africana: You’re welcome.
