UI HOLDS 2014 CONVOCATION AND 66TH FOUNDATION DAY CEREMONIES
The University of Ibadan held her convocation and 66th foundation day ceremonies in the course of the gone week. The ceremony kicked off on Friday, 7th November, 2014 with the convocation Jumat service. There was a convocation lecture on Tuesday, 11th November, 2014 at the International Conference Centre.
The executive governor of State of Osun, His Excellency, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola gave the lecture on the topic; ‘FEDERALISM, DEMOCRACY AND THE FUTURE OF NIGERIA’. On Thursday, 13th November 2014, there was admission to First Degrees and Award of Diplomas and Certificates to those graduating from the Faculties of Arts, Science, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Public Health, Dentistry and Law; while for those in the Faculties of Agriculture and Forestry, Technology, Pharmacy, the Social Sciences, Veterinary Medicine and Education held on Friday, 14th November 2014. The ceremony continues on Saturday, 15th November 2014 with award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Admission to higher degrees at the International Conference Center by 10am.
On Sunday, 16th November 2014, there will be a command performance of Wole Soyinka’s play, ‘ALAPATA APATA’ at the Arts Theatre, by 6pm. On Monday 17th November, which is the last day of the convocation ceremony is the main celebration of the 66th Foundation day. There will be admission to higher degrees and also, Award of Honorary Degrees to some eminent people who are; Chief Oluwole Oladapo Olanipekun, Emeritus Professor Theophilus Oladapo Ogunlesi, Emeritus Professor Tekena Nitonye Tamuno, Otunba Mike Adeniyi Isola Adenuga and Professor Akinwande Oluwole Soyinka at the International Conference Center by 10am. The programme then ends with a convocation luncheon at the Vice Chancellor’s lodge by 1pm.
POWER OUTAGE DISRUPTS UI CONVOCATION
Power outage almost marred the convocation ceremony held on Thursday, 13th November 2014, as grandaunts and their families were thrown into darkness for over an hour. The ceremony which was stipulated for 10am could not start by that time as a result of the power outage. It took the efforts of the maintenance unit to rectify the fault.
SU WEEK KICKS OFF ON 23RD NOVEMBER 2014
The much awaited and anticipated Students’ Union week is here again. The week which is tagged ‘PREMIER’S ORIGINALITY’ starts on Sunday 23rd November 2014 with an awareness campaign. On the 24th and 25th will be Carnival & Asun Night and Sports Night respectively. There will be a personality lecture on Wednesday, 26th November 2014 in which the executive governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi will be around to deliEver. There will also be a debate on that same day. The week will end on Sunday, 28th November 2014 with a thanksgiving service.
JCI HOLDS 5TH DR. LANRE BELLO INTER FACULTY DEBATE
The Junior Chambers International, University of Ibadan Chapter held the 5th Dr Lanre Bello Inter Faculty Debate with the topic, ‘ZONING IN POLITICAL PARTIES HAS GOOD PROSPECTS FOR DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA’ on Friday, 14th November 2014 at the First Bank Building, Faculty of Agriculture.
