UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN EMERGES WINNER OF INTER-VARSITY DEBATE

University of Ibadan has again given its students a reason to be proud of themselves and of their citadel of learning, when on Thursday, October 31st, it emerged winner of The Political Science Committee of Students Inter-varsity Debate held at the Distance Learning Centre, University of Ibadan.

The inter-varsity debate which was the fifth edition of an annual memorial lecture and inter-varsity debate, organized by  The Political Science Committee of Students in honour of Professor Bayo Okunade attracted participants from five top-ranking universities in Nigeria: University of Ilorin, University of Ibadan, Tai Solarin University of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University and Federal University of Oye, Ekiti. 

University of Ibadan emerged winner of the competition, leaving Obafemi Awolowo University and University of Ilorin to wrestle for the second and third positions respectively. 

Despite critical comments by members of the audience that the speakers were sentimental in tackling the debate topic, “The Fulani Hegemonic Agenda: A Myth Or Reality?”, Professor Oduola Abiola, who was one of the judges of the debate, commended the efforts of the contestants, their confidence and convincing points.

” Keep the fire burning.  Your performance is enough proof that the Nigeria of tomorrow would be a better place because it would be left in the care of smart and vibrant youths.”, he said.

He also urged every Nigerian present at the debate to be careful, so as not to allow tribalism becloud their ‘sense of oneness.’
