The Manager of Customer Feedback Service (CFS) Weather Africa Limited, Mr. Rolu Adebola, has said as thinking deep is an underlying principle of Classics, it makes humans God-like.
He made this submission on Wednesday, at the memorial lecture of the Association of Classics Students titled; Classics and Innovative Thinking: An Imperative for the 21st Century, held in honour of the late Chief Bola Ige, who is an alumnus of the department of Classics, at the Small Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Arts.
Mr. Rolu mentioned that “most people live but they do not think. Classics, however, provides the tools needed for thinking. Classics is all about the capacity of the mind to think.”
He also when we think, we evolve from humanity to divinity, and the future belongs to those nations, societies and individuals who have developed the capacity of thinking and innovating.
Speaking further, he mentioned some pillars of wisdom which can be used to navigate the world. According to him, the first pillar is that Africa needs great thinker. He said people are always willing to understand the value that Classics adds to the lives of students who are into this practice, but the truth is that what they do cannot be seen because it is like the foundation of a big building or skyscraper.
Mr. Adebola further said the Africa man, however, deals with tangible things not intangible but it should be known that it is the intangible world that rules the tangible world. “The mind is the foundation of all things,” he stated. “When we make use of our thinking faculty, we are able to become the great minds needed by the nation.”
Emphasizing the importance of education, he said “Education is the means to our sustainability.” He continued that education should not be seen as a means to an end but as the end itself. “The future starts from the mind,” he added.
According to him, we (Africans) have to be the future that our continent needs and also have to build that future that we want which is the second pillar. He stated that only trained minds can lead, harping that the mind is the most valuable resource in the world as it is path that leads to the reality one is planning to create.
Mr. Rolu spoke further that trained minds would always lead and people would always ask for directions from the mind that has been trained. However, in order to train the mind, he said one needs to learn more as learning makes use of one’s thinking capability.
He stated: “the mind is blunt and can only be sharpened through thinking. The only limitation to one’s thinking is how far one is willing to stretch the mind.”
