“The truth is, I’m not going to practice law, I’m going to full time music.”-SULTAN
GIVE A BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF YOURSELF.
My name is Sultan, I am a 200 level student of the faculty of Law. I’m a singer, rap artiste and I also compose and write poems. I’m a Christian, I hail from Osun State, Ede in particular and I also love everything about music especially entertainment.I dislike lies and people who try to act in ways they are not.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INTO MUSIC?
I’ve been into music for the past five years, i started rapping at the age of 13.
HOW HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO STRIKE A BALANCE BETWEEN MUSIC AND LAW?
As you know, law is a wonderful course. It is demanding but I’ve sacrificed time and I try to bring a clear distinction between what I am studying and music.
WHAT IS YOUR SOURCE OF INSPIRATION?
I refer everything that comes to me to God. Man doesn’t have anything apart from the gift of God. So I get my inspiration from God Almighty. I’m also moved by beats and I’m greatly inspired when I hear instrumentals.
WHO ARE YOUR ROLE MODELS AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT THEM?
I’m influenced by a gospel artiste, Lecrae and he is a grammy award winner. He’s a really wonderful rapper. I love him because he puts dynamics into his rap, despite the fact that he is a gospel artiste. And back here, I love rappers like Jesse Jagz and Olamide. I like Olamide because of his indigenous style and Jesse Jagz because of his brilliance.
WILL YOU LIKE TO PRACTICE LAW IN THE FUTURE?
The truth is, I’m not going to practice law, I’m going to full time music.
YOU RELEASED A SINGLE RECENTLY, CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT IT?
The name is “Lyrical Badman”. I got the inspiration from plain beats as usual. I have a friend that calls me lyrical, some of my fans also call me lyrical. I went to the studio one day and decided to compose a song on lyrical badman and I started writing on it. If you listen to the lyrics of the song, it’s like a call and response.
DO YOU BELONG TO ANY RECORD LABEL, BAND OR GROUP?
I have a personal band, if I’m invited to weddings for live performances. But I don’t belong to any record label as at now, but hopefully, I’ll have a record label soon.
HOW DO YOU SEE THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY?
The music industry in Nigeria is moving to greater heights. There are a lot of dynamics in the way things are being done. Nigeria’s music industry is full of so many things that baffle the mind. At times, you see artistes that create songs for the sake of money only because there is no true inspiration behind the music. People are moved by what they hear, that is why I’m trying to bring about my own type of music, so when you listen to my songs or raps, even if it is love I’m singing about, you feel the impact.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE AS AN UP AND COMING ARTISTE?
I don’t like to refer myself as an up and coming artiste. People outside there believe if they play your song on a radio station for example and the presenter calls you an upcoming artiste, they see you as someone who has nothing to offer. If you are made today, you discover that you’ll just hit the market and people will want to listen to your song.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
By God’s grace, I ought to have reached a particular height and when I look back, I’ll be happy with myself.
WHAT WILL YOU LIKE TO TELL YOUR FANS? SHOULD THEY EXPECT MORE FROM YOU AND WHEN ARE YOU DROPPING YOUR NEXT SINGLE?
Presently, I’m working on 3 tracks apart from Lyrical badman. I’m working on Special fever, Kilimanjaro and Dobale. And I will be featuring some artistes in school like Bobby and Paparazzi.
