UI alumnus honors father, donates books to the Faculty of Economics

Professor Francis Gbenga Fashanu, an alumnus of the Faculty of Economics, University of Ibadan has donated over N20 million worth of books to the Faculty. This was done in collaboration with the Economics Class of 1990 to honour his late father, Stephen Adebisi Fashanu.

While explaining the reason behind his kind gesture, Professor Francis Fashanu, who is a professor at Sheridan College, Canada, said that he is interested in giving back to the university due to the immense knowledge they have gained from it.

“The motivation behind it is to give back because we gained so much from this university. Whatever we are today is because of the foundation that is laid for us here at the university. We need to give back so that those who are coming behind us have a better future”

Speaking at the official presentation of the books, Proffessor Adeola Adenikinju, Head of Department of Economics said that the books will boost future accreditation of the department by the National Universities Commission and other professional bodies like the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Present at the event were the representatives of the Class 1990 in person of Tola Olomitola, Wole Ogundimu, Adebisi George Ojo, Honourable Yemi Akinlabi, Sulaimon Olalere and Biodun Balogun.
