The Students’Executive Council has dissociated itself from the popularized Ivory Awards for which nominations are currently being solicited by many on campus. In a disclaimer published over the weekend by the Students’ Union Public Relations Officer, Adegoke Taiye Vincent aka T-Cent, the Union denounced any part in the said awards and cautioned its organizers against using its name in any advertorials. The Union, however, expressed readiness to work with the organizers of the awards once the right processes are followed.
Read excerpts from the disclaimer below:
DISCLAIMER AND IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM THE STUDENTS’ UNION, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN:
The Students’ Union, University of Ibadan uses this medium to dissociate itself from the so called OFFICIAL UI AWARDS, IVORY HONOURS ’15 organised by some set of people. The union did not organise such award programme neither was it (the union) engaged in any discussion with the organisers of the award. The award is hereby not the “Official UI award” neither is it an “Ivory Honour”.
The union has nothing against the award nor its organisers. The union is not also disreputing the award. All the union detests is the phrase “Official UI Award” used by the organisers which portrays the award as a UI students’ event.
As a result so many students have been agitating why the Students’ Union which is supposed to be the umbrella body of the students would be involved in a programme full of criticism like that. The Students’ Union was not part of nor did it set up the committee which put up those nominations.
The organisers are however called upon, to officially meet with the union executives as soon as possible, for proper negotiation, in other to have the full support of the students’ union, University of Ibadan.
