UI REOPENS, LECTURES BEGIN JUNE 20

Sequel to the senate meeting that held yesterday, the University of Ibadan has recalled students of the institution after a prolonged break as academic activities including lectures is expected to commence on June 20, 2016.

According to the Director, Directorate of Public Communication, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, in a reply to the text message sent to him, said that students are expected on campus from 18 to 19 June while lectures start on Monday, 20 June, 2016. He also said that an official bulletin would be released to that effect.

It could be recalled that the University was shut few weeks ago after a protest by the Students’ Union over inadequate power and water supply and agitation for the release of a student, Tunji Ekpeti who has been said to be unjustly punished by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee (SDC).

However, the Students’ Union, in a statement signed by the PRO, Ayantola Alayande has reiterated that the Union remains resolute to their demands as it is very important that the University management meet these demands before academic activities can resume fully. He stated that there will be a meeting of all Students’ leader and interested students on Saturday, 11 June in which the situation would be critically assessed and issues at hand addressed.

Meanwhile, the rumour in some quarters, that the signing of undertaken form as a prerequisite to resumption should be debunked. It was said that the recommendation was proposed at the level of Committee of Deans, Provost and Directors but was rejected at the level of the Senate.
