UCJUI HOSTS CAMPUS JOURNALISTS ACROSS NIGERIA, ORGANIZES NATIONAL CAMPUS JOURNALISTS WORKSHOP

The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan hosted Campus Journalists across the country for two days as she organizes the National Campus Journalists Workshop for 2016.

The event took place on 1st and 2nd of September 2016, at the Kunle Adepeju building and Trenchard Hall respectively. While the first day witnessed the arrival of campus journalists from their various institutions, it also featured nucj-workshop the comedy and film show which was held at the SRC Chambers.

The second day witnessed the workshop, which took place Trenchard Hall in the University of Ibadan. The workshop which was on the theme; “Journalism and Campus Journalism: Bridging the Gap”, witnessed the presence of 3 speakers; Mr. Dayo Aiyeotan(Executive Director, International Conference for Investigative Reporting, Nigeria), Mr. Nseobong Okon-Ekong(Deputy Editor, THISDAY Newspapers) and Miss Dulcie O’Dwyer(OAP, Rainbow FM).

Mr. Dayo Aiyeotan informed the campus journalists present at the event that, “the campus is not different from the general society. To make a change in the University environment, we need to do investigative journalism. The tools are there for you.” He further advised that campus journalists should endeavor to get the support and advice of main stream journalists and media houses.

Mr. Okon-Efong, admonished campus journalists to be on top of their game as we are in a new era where everyone is in a hurry.

“Everybody has become a journalist, but you anucj logod I are challenged to be better and on top of our game as people would not take it anyhow you give them anymore…The new millennium has brought its challenges, but I think they are challenges that will help us all round and keep us on our toes”, he said.

He added that, “your news writing style has changed as you are writing for people who are in a hurry…The internet and mobile phones have affected the way we report and analyze news.”

While the 3rd speaker, Miss Dulsie spoke on ethics as well as ‘Journalists in the business of Content Marketing’, it should be noted that the occasion was graced by campus journalists from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Federal School of Statistics, Ibadan, Moshood Abiola Polythecnic, Ogun, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Crawford University, Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, Federal University of Technology, Akure, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, among others.
