THE EDITORIAL- SAVE THE LAST DANCE

After being acclaimed as a coward in the heart of battle, a young university boy set out to prove the people around him wrong on his capacity to lead. With the society gradually crumbling on his head after some demonstrations he had jumped in rather than led, the year end’s project was all he had to redeem his name. He had to save his last dance.

Backed by a beautiful young charismatic lady, he had the right weapon to make it work and all he had to do was wield. Collete was the magic wand in the hands of Edosa, and he wielded it well to create a spectacular enchantment; one that hypnotized the whole university. The highlight and saving grace of the Edosa led administration was a superb Students’ Union Week.

The beauty of the Students’ Union week is to have the whole university come together for a common interest asides going to classrooms to study. It should be the biggest get together of the year as students who are “stakeholders” in the building of the university get to connect with one another for maybe through the first and last elaborate means. It should be a time when we all come together to eat from a common pot, to tell our stories and transmit the greatness that lies in every one of us. It should be our beautiful moment of coming to school summarized in a week.

Overtime, the Students’ Union week is the highlight of most Students’ Union administrations. A flop in this set of programmes would mostly dent the image of the administration leaving only rubbles that may or may not be considered significant. Unfortunately, only one Students’ Union President has been able to completely achieve that feat of giving the students of the university a befitting Students’ Union week and that was the ever-greeting College of Medicine student, Ekhator Edosa led IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING team. With the expertise of Atane Collete brought to the fore, students experienced what truly a modern Students’ Union week should look like.

Preceded by an administration that had nothing to lose, the Tokunbo Salako led Students’ Union, Edosa had everything to prove. After being acclaimed as a weak president, he had to show how powerful he was. And with the Students’ Union week, we could not doubt the extent of his abilities and the excellence of his team.

Unfortunately for this current team, the SU week seems to be the only magic card that can be played to wow the people who voted them in and those who want them to fail, as they have an incredibly short time to do any other thing. With a blip appearing to taint the trust the students have in them due to the several mingling of external politics into the administration, the world is waiting for Huntersola and his partner, Chidinma to perform wonders especially followers of BOW who had promised an exceptional week and which was their major tool of campaign. It is down to Huntersola and Chidinma to save what appears to be their last dance; their only dance.
