TEN MORE REASONS TO EAT MANGOES

Okay, how about a little mango history, a little, I promise. Mangoes originated from South Asia, i.e., Burma and East India, then they spread to Malaya, Eastern Asia, and Eastern Africa, so no, they did not originate from here.
Apart from the fact that they are sweet, colourful and provide a healthy snack alternative, mangoes have a whole lot to offer. Here are 10 more reasons to eat mangoes today:

1. They cleanse the skin: Mangoes work both internally and externally to clean the skin. They help to open up skin pores and eliminate pimples. You can make a quick face mask by blending mango fruit and applying some to your face for a smooth and tender skin.
2. Reduce cancer risks: Cancers are the second leading cause of death in the world but mangoes contains a high amount of antioxidants to help reduce cancer cells in the body.
3. Improved vision: Mangoes contain beta carotene, the plant form of vitamin A which is good for sight. Do you remember vitamin A for vision? That’s right!
4. Lowers cholesterol: Mangoes contain a high amount of fibre, pectin and vitamin C which help to reduce the cholesterol level in the blood and reduce low density lipoproteins(which can clog up the arteries and prevent effective blood flow)
5. Reduce diabetes: They help to reduce diabetes by normalizing the insulin levels in the body. A simple home treatment to diabetes is to boil mango leaves, about 5-6 pieces in water, soak overnight, then take as a concoction the next morning. In addition to this, mango has a low glycemic index hence will not increase your blood glucose level as much.
6. Improves digestion: As with many fruits, mangoes contain a high amount of fibre which enhance digestion and bowel movements. They also contain enzymes which break down proteins, further helping the digestive system.

FUN WAYS TO ENJOY YOUR MANGOES
Blend them to make a mango juice, without the flesh, of course. You may add yoghurt to it to make a smoothie, a colourful drink would be to pour a layer of mango juice, top with a layer of yoghurt then top up with a layer of mango juice.
Cut the mango vertically, against the pit, put it down with the edible part facing up. Cut vertical and horizontal lines across it without cutting through the skin, turn out the mango, remove the cubes and enjoy that sweet taste.
Use it in a fruit salad. It’s a seasonal fruit, they would soon be gone so eat them while they last.
