The Faculty of Arts held her 2nd Biennial International conference tagged ‘Imagining Order/ Other- The Humanities and Global Peace and Security’ from 18th to 22nd May, 2015.
The formal opening took place at the University of Ibadan International Conference while all parallel sessions, held at the Faculty’s lecture rooms.
The major highlights of the conference were constituted by keynotes lectures which were delivered by notable academicians which include Prof. Folake Onayemi, Head, Department of Classics, Prof. Niyi Okunoye, Head, Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife and Prof. O. Oloyede, the former Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin.
Prof. Is-haq Oloyede who spoke on the theme: Imagining the Order/Other-The Humanities and Global Peace and Security encouraged humanities to champion peace and correct the disorder taking over the world such as hegemonic control, hedonism, xenophobia, sexism, clashes on belief systems, disintegration of family system among others.
Prof. Folake Onayemi identified ineffective leadership, education, perceived threat of western culture, promotion of science at the expense of humanities and the widening gap between the rich and the poor as the factors negating global security and peace.
