HISTORIC MOMENTS OF THE 2015 UISU ELECTION

illuminating changes

The 2015 UISU election is definitely an historic one that might not be experienced again in the next 20 years; from the falls of great halls to emergence of unnoticeable faces and voices. For the first time in 5years, the UISU election witnessed the highest number of candidate as 24 aspirants battled for eight positions.

As a result of the wind of time that shook the Students’ Union in first semester. The electoral commission were blown off by mere breath of the aspirants and the “Students’ Leaders”. This made history because the constitution and tradition could not be upheld, thereby having elections for the first time in second semester.

The Zikites went round every halls of residence to appreciate their supporters and show how joyous they are; not for the electoral victory but the history made. Since the resurrection of the Students’ Union, Zik hall only supports other halls’ candidate for the presidential post. Last year would have been their year but Zik’s candidate was disqualified. It was so much joy to have the first president to be a Zikite. They are the greatest winners in the election.

It would be a cheat from my end If Mustapha Olawuni aka Hope 14 is not appreciated for recommending to the electoral commission to count the votes in the various halls of residence. I definitely appreciate all “Students’ Leaders” who joined in the struggle. History was made, we had the first election for the UISU and it was counted in various hall of residence that partook in the election.

I went sober when I had that the only candidate that came out on the platform of Awo hall and she is a student of Arabic and Isalmic Studies lost. It was not because she was the only female among those contesting for the same post at least Toyosi Akinloye Grace (TAG) also lost but the Halqah family as they are fondly called most time restrain from Students’ Union politics and now that she eventually has one who was ready to contest with men for the position of AGS lost? I will encourage the family to produce tougher people next election.

AWO! AWO!!! AWO!!! The greatest village located on the mountain in between valleys has fallen in its valley and the pride of the hall has been snatched by her neighbour, Queen Idia hall. The first time in five years AWO hall will be losing the seat of UISU vice-president. All effort to have a smaller pride to cover up her shame went into futile as she could not produce one UISU executive out of the three aspirants that came out on the platform of the hall. Awo lost all offices contested for by her member as harvest for her deed to Zik and Indy in the last election. “Iyan Ogun odun a ma joni lenufelifeli” which translates thus; the deeds of past year can come hunting anytime. The greatest loser of the election

Tedder hall of flame, sorry I meant Hall of fame. The fame of the hall has grown so big that any aspirants could not make it out of it. The only survived candidate who made it out of the fame to establish his own was the house secretary of the sophomore’s team, Actor. After that no other candidate has ever made it out of the too much fame of Tedder hall.

Kuti Hall could not use the magic they have been using since the sophomore’s regime to produce at least a candidate to occupy an office in the brown building of Kunle Adepeju Building. This year, the two candidates the hall produced lost out in the race. Great men falling, who is next?

First time in history, Mellanby hall would be supporting and going to the polls for a presidential candidate and lost.

The first time SRC election was conducted on Sunday due to the post UTME held on Saturday which should have been the day for the election. The reason behind this was because the security personnel cannot be divided for two giants events for that day.

It is sad for some and good for others that history has to take new course just like the ogunpa river swallow the yemetu river during the “Omi yale Agbara yashop” flood incident in Ibadan years back and “the Sai Buhari Sai Baba” victory for Nigerians. Will this bring the change we want?

  1. The first Vice – President we had in 2011 was from Idia hall.
    Her name is Olatinwo Wuraola.
So this isn’t the first time Awo would be losing the office of the VP.
She contested with IBK from Awo hall who later emerged as the majority leader of Awo hall in the legislative arm.
