HELL’S FURY

Fela: What! Don’t touch me!!! Are you mad, hope your senses are in the right places? If
You come near me, I promise I will kill you. Just daannoyed2re me
Biyi:Who do you think you are talking to? kill me, huh? you wouldnt dare!

Fela gets angry, furious and didn’t know how he would express himself. He stands up, paces up and down listening to Biyi’s ranting, his hands already become a fist. His teeth biting painfully into his lips. He faces Biyi in one instance, walks towards him without thinking and hits Biyi with a force that threw Biyi to the floor then went out. Biyi began gasping for air, reaching for his inhaler but it was not at his arm’s length, he was seeing some angels flying towards him, he pointed to the direction of his inhaler but the angels were smiling at him, beckoning on him. His spirit left his body and left the world. Biyi’s parents were told of the death of their son and they were furious, they called the police and took the case to court. Fela is charged for attempted murder and he is sentenced to forty years imprisonment with hard labor.

This short story tells us what anger does to man. Anger hangs one. Of course, you would know that Fela did not have any intention of killing Biyi. He did not like the way Biyi touched him so he reacted, his reaction was just to stop Biyi painfully from doing that again. His reaction led him to regret ever thinking of doing what he did. He spent the meaningful part of his life in the prison.

Anger is a strong uncomfortable and emotional response to a perceived provocation. It is like pressure cooker or a boiler. When you put a little pressure on anger, it steams, when you leave it for a long time, then it boils. When you do not watch over it, it destroys you. When anger is controlled and checked frequently, it warns people off at the right time. When it is not checked or controlled it leads to aggression which would have its consequence and regrets.

Fela only wanted to tell Biyi off by getting angry, but because he could not control himself or even think of the consequence of what he was about to do, the anger left him in the anger for forty years.
Anger belittles you. It reduces your self-esteem and it makes you say things that you would not have said when you are in your light mood.

Anger destroys animals, places, things and people. I remember a friend who told me that whenever she gets angry with her fiancé or anyone, she destroys anything special or close to his heart. He had just bought a nice suit for the interview he would go for the next day and he had none, his fiancée came to him to play with her but he wanted to get prepared for the interview that will benefit both of them, she got angry, went to the wardrobe, got scissors and destroyed the suit her fiancé had gone to buy for the interview the next day. That was the end of their relationship.

Anger breaks the heart, it makes one handicapped. It causes anxiety, high blood pressure, headaches and abuses.
Anger is not even good for our health because it leads to stroke, heart attack, skin problems, insomnia, digestion problems and others.

There are positive ways of expressing our anger and this is by walking away from the situation until you feel better and in a good way to talk and settle the issue. Understand the reason you are angry and come up with the most suitable way of dealing with it positively. If you feel you cannot still be calm from the anger, go out for a jug, go to the gym, sleep, and cook. Do something physical that will make use up the strength you want to pour out in anger. Write out different times when you have gotten angry and what each has led to including how you were able to settle it, either good or bad. Read books. Express yourself with checked and refined words. Pray to the supreme one to help you watch it.

WHAT TYPE OF ANGER AM I EXPRESSING
Chronic anger:
this is like a chronic mental disorder and it is the cause of mental disorders in many people. This is caused by prolonged self-anger, or a generalized anger against the society, the family, situation of things, your results, your lecturers, your room mates, the school and others. It puts stress on our immune system. It is unhealthy. It is closely related to depression and other mood disorders.

Passive anger:
you may not know you are angry when it is passive. Your reply to questions or your reaction may be that of sarcasm, apathy or meanness. It involves preserving personal worth, needs, convictions, at someone else’s expense. It is accomplished in a quieter manner, in fact it could be said to be silent anger. It causes less personal vulnerability. This angry person is deliberately doing something knowing it will agitate the other person or people involved.

Overwhelming anger:
this is when someone is so angry that he throws things. This is destructive and can lead to the worst regret. It is caused by circumstances that are too great for individuals to handle. It can be called frustration. It is caused by situations like, inability to get a job, carry overs you didn’t expect, getting pregnant at an inappropriate time, sexual abuse, raising children etc.

Self-inflicted anger:
as the name implies, it is directed at one’s self, it is caused by ones inability to do something. Probably failing a test, or getting something wrong, or even failing a task that one does. It can result in being weak, feeling incompetent, having emotional and physical weakness, having self-mistrust, self-depreciation, loss of appetite etc.

Volatile anger:
it is like Nigerian electricity, it comes and goes and when it does, it is explosive and intense. It is caused by wrong perception of things or someone or personal annoyance. It leads to physical or verbal upsurge and it is very dangerous. Retaliatory anger: it is directed at someone, people or a society to get back at them for a wrong they have done before. It is called revenge. Someone has been hurt and then he or she decides to hurt those who hurt her or him. It is also a dangerous one.
There are other types of anger apart from all this, but I will tell us to avoid all this types of anger and try expressing our mind with refined words that will not hurt others.

LET LOVE DWELL AMONG US!!!
