The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka has reacted to the recent robbery attack on Abdulsalam Abubakar Hall on August 11, 2019.
The attack, according to the punchng.com was carried out in midnight, between the hour of 2 am and 3 am. According to the report, seven armed robbers with machetes, paired in two, had robbed the first and second floor of Block C unperturbed, which belongs to the female wing, they tied up a security man, and one of the two students, who came to challenge these men was bruised in his hand.
Following the on-spot assessment made by the Vice-Chancellor in three Halls of residence: Queen Idia Hall, Obafemi Awolowo Hall and Queen Elizabeth II Hall, the resolution was sent by 9:45 pm and distributed by the Wardens of the Halls, copying the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics),
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RISP), the University registrar, Dean of students, CCCS and the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the institution, the Vice-Chancellor, in his statements said,
“In view of recent security situation on the campus, male visitors are henceforth prohibited from entering the above-listed female halls of residence”
“The residents of the aforementioned Halls can only receive their male visitors outside the hall. Female visitors should be screened at the Porters’ lodge”
“All male visitors are expected to leave the precincts of the female halls by 8:30 pm. Anyone found loitering will be regarded as a suspect”, he stated.
Meanwhile, students have reacted to the measure on the early hour of Tuesday, August 13, 2019, saying it is a “laughable traditional approach”
