The Super Eagles took flight in a thrilling 3-2 victory as the three-time champions rallied back from a goal down to beat the defending champions Cameroon, in their second round encounter at the Alexandria Stadium on Saturday.
Odion Ighalo bags a brace and Alex Iwobi also found the back of the net as the Nigeria Super Eagles overcome a strong Cameroonian side to advance into the quarterfinals of the 2019 African Cup of Nations.
China-based forward Ighalo bundled home a scrappy opener but Clarence Seedorf’s side hit back through Stephane Bahoken and Clinton Njie with two quick-fire goals before half-time.
Nigeria drew level as Ighalo volleyed in his second just past the hour and he then turned provider to play in Iwobi to steer home three minutes later and set up a quarter-final crunch match against South Africa who shockingly knocked out Egypt.
There was massive celebration inside their dressing room and at the team’s hotel after the game, but head coach of the side, Gernot Rohr hinted that the team will get busy with training for the quarterfinal match against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
