The University of Ibadan Council of Faculty Presidents has on Sunday, June 9, 2019, met with the Vice Chancellor of the University — Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka — to discuss salient issues bordering on well-being of students on campus.

The meeting, demanded by the council, held at the Vice Chancellor’s Lodge was also attended by the incoming Dean of Students — Professor Isaac Adekeye Abiona.

The VC, according to the council, spoke on different issues affecting students which include: the stakeholders forum, proscription of motorcycle operations on campus, College of Medicine, among others. He said: “the stakeholders’ forum has been a medium of awareness of the challenges of parents, students, staff and management, thereby engendering ideas, solutions and resolutions”.

The Vice Chancellor promised to look into the suggestion of the incoming DSA to include students representative in the intra-campus transport committee (ICTC). He then asked the council to write to the designated body concerning the motorcycle saga.

Professor Abiona enjoined students to shun any act of violence, protest or demonstration as they do nothing than disrupting both the academic and nonacademic activities of the school.

The Vice Chancellor, elated at the meeting, assured the council of his readiness to “dialogue, relate with UI students and not people under the aeges of students movement outside his scope of contract”.

He then promised to meet with student representatives few weeks into resumption to hear other issues students may want to discuss.
