A group of young influencers of the Global Leadership Summit, University of Ibadan (GLSUI) are prepared to walk against suicide in a bid to change the narrative of the heightened level of suicides in the country.
The proposed walk christened ‘Walk for Wellness: A Stride Against Suicide’ is slated for the 25th of June by 10am prompt and would kickstart from the UI gate to Halls of Residence, Faculties and Departments on campus.
It is part of activities laid out in the buildup to the second edition of the leadership summit experience–GLSUI’19 scheduled to hold on the 25th and 26th of October, 2019 at the Trenchard hall of the University of Ibadan.
In a release sent to members of the public titled ‘Special Release GLSUI/OT/001/19’, the outreach team of GLSUI’19 noted its readiness to host students and members of staff of the University who would be joining in the walk. The release reads in part: “…we are glad to inform every GLS UI influencer that Outreach Team would be organising a Walk for Wellness (A Stride Against Suicide). The walk will take place inside UI and for UI Community; both Students and Staff Members. We are to kick off from UI gate to Halls of Residence, Faculties and Departments.”
It would be recalled that in recent times there has been a wide media reportage of depression and suicide cases among young minds across different parts of the country. It is against this backdrop that the GLSUI’19 influencers are set to take several strides along side students and staff of the University who are expected to converge at the Etisalat stand, UI gate. The walk is targeted at advocating for wellness and life and to consequently end the scourge of depression in the University community.
