UI VC promises to find out about paid unexecuted Field Trip charges

Yesterday May 6, 2019 at around 8pm, the University of Ibadan’s Vice chancellor Prof Olayinka Idowu in reaction to the numerous complaints raised by students reacting to the new Technology Levy of #6500’s inclusion in the forthcoming 2018/2019 Academic Session’s school fees, had promised to find out about the Field Trip Levy of #5,000 paid by students in the Faculty of Arts in the previous session.
His reply made through a WhatsApp message had come in response to the complaint that only the Department of Archaeology in the whole Faculty had embarked on the Trip, given that the Trip had always been a traditional activity in that department and not because they paid the Levy.

Meanwhile, the VC had clarified that the new Technology Levy which hitherto had remained the “#2,000 Portal Fee” paid as part of UI’s school fees, was only increased and rechristened and that it is not a new Levy at all.
In explaining this, he said,
“For the Technology Fee I suppose you were paying #2,000 up till 2017/2018 as Portal Fee. This in essence is what has been re-christened Technology Fee”.
This, he had said in light of his earlier statement released to AFAS Press via WhatsApp last Sunday, that the Technology Levy is charged in a bid to provide a fast, reliable robust internet service for students as from the forth-coming 2018/2019 Academic Session on, and that the project will involve a whole lot in terms in funds, hence the reason the levy is increased.
