Pick It Recycling Club, a Club in the University of Ibadan whose major mission is to address contemporary environmental issues in the society has organised on Saturday, 13th April, 2019, a sensitization campaign programme in the Agbowo community.
The sensitization campaign which started some minutes to 10am and ended 11:30am was tagged #NotInMyGutter. It was organised to educate sellers, market men and women and residents of Agbowo community on the need for good and healthy waste disposal practices.
The campaign programme witnessed close to thirty participants who were grouped in twos to face different areas in Agbowo. They were harmed with customised T-shirt and placards with different inscriptions on it. Waste bags were also given out to few of the market men and women to encourage them to dispose their wastes appropriately.
The participants were elated to have participated in the sensitization campaign. “It was such a great experience.
I must confess that I was awed to see people being so receptive to our message. I suddenly realised people are not as bad as often thought when it comes to threatening global issues, they only need information being presented to them at their level; as well as someone who will also hear them out”, said Adejumo Precious, one of the #NotInMyGutter Volunteers.
Pick it Recycling Club was co-founded about a year ago by three Uites- Chenube Oghenekevwe Daniel, Brimmo Farida and Adeniran Atinuke, all with great passion to tackle various bad environmental practices in the country. The #NotInMyGutter sensitization is just one of the club’s activities scheduled for a greener environment this year.
