THE NIGERIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY UI DETACHMENT INAUGURATES NEW PATRONS, INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS

After a whole session of practical classes and examinations, The Nigerian Red Cross Society, UI detachment inaugurates five (5) new patrons and inducts twenty-four (24) new members on the 3rd of March, 2019 at the inductee/inauguration programme held at the Department of Statistics, University of Ibadan.

The event which started some minutes after 2pm ended 5pm was the 47th induction of the detachment which was founded on 8th of April, 1972 with the motto being ”through humanity to peace”. The goal of the detachment is to resuscitate and ensure the wide spread impact of red cross society in the university community and its axis.

The detachment’s Administrative Chain includes the Vice Chancellor of the great prestigious University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka being the Grand Patron, The Director of School Health Services, The Director of Sport Council, The patrons, The commandant, The deputy commandant and other executives of the detachment.

The lecture of the day was taken by one of the Patrons of the Detachment Dr. Dele Oladipupo. In his scintillating lecture, he reminded the members of the society which include the newly inductee that though their work is associated with first aid, it still surpasses the work of rendering first aid. He said the role and responsibilities of a first aider is to incorporate the aims of first aid, which is to carry out the three P’s which include preserving life, preventing the condition from worsening and promoting recovery. He also admonished everyone to take note of accident and safety in their various halls and departments by emphasising that prevention is better than cure.

Oyo State Branch Secretary, Mr. Ojo Olaleye also spoke briefly to the inductees. He said preserving life as a crosser can be done in any environment one find oneself. He furthermore told them that being a member places them in a position to render help to people and also get help from others especially while on uniform or any form of recognition as a crosser anywhere in the world while also bestowing the honour of associate members to the Patrons inducted.

The list of the Patrons that the detachment inaugurated are as follow; Dr. Olufemi Adebukola Adebiyi (Hall Warden of Nnamdi Azikwe Hall), Dr. Babatunde Richard Oluwasegun Omidiwura (the Hall Warden of Ransome Kuti Hall), Dr. Angela Chukwu (Head of Statistics Department), Professor Katherine Chowen (former Hall Warden Queen Elizabeth ll hall), and Engineer Bolarinwa Olowe ( CEO Bolcon Nigeria Limited, Ibadan). After the inauguration of the new Patrons, Patron Dr. Dele Oladipupo commended the executives for their selection of the patrons because the set of people truly have humanitarian services and passion in their blood.

The intending crossers were inducted by one of the Patrons, Dr. Ruth Adio Moses who led them in the recitation of their membership oath welcomed them into the family of Red and White.

Other outstanding guests that were recognised include: Trainer Teller Saheed (Deputy Coordinator of Oyo Youth Wing), Instructor Damilola Bello (Ogun State Branch Official), Trainer Tunde Adegboro ( National Executive Member, Abuja), Mr. Ojo Olaleye ( Oyo State Branch Secretary), Mr. Tunde Oshinuga (Red Cross UI,Staff Adviser) who was absent.

The event ended with the Red Cross Anthem which highlights the 7 principles of Nigerian Red Cross Society and they include: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, Universality.
