The literary and debating society, in preparation for the coming edition of this year’s Jaw War held a judges’ conference on the 8th September, 2018 at the Students affairs division’s conference room. The conference, sectioned into two had the briefing session where the president of the society, Sadiq Gbenga briefed the judges on the modalities and the discussion session where the judges ruminated on the modalities of awarding point.

The president while giving his opening remarks said the conference is aimed at mitigating the controversy about judges being partial in their decisions as the judges decisions cannot be reversed according to the law of the society and also to ensure that the same set of judges are used throughout the tournament.

Issues discussed includes criteria for scoring, use of electronic devices by the speakers in preparation for rebuttals, presence of fact checker to verify speakers fact to ensure non-admittance of wrongful fact. The judges asked the society to fix the modalities on dresscode as this will enable the judges to know what to look out for in relation to awarding marks for appearance. It was also agreed that MCs would not be allowed to make any comments about any speech but there may be an interlude after each round.

While speaking with the P.R.O of the society, Otitojesu said the resolutions will be sent to all stakeholders so as to keep them aware of the new development.
