Prof. Titilayo .O. Fakeye, of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Administration, Faculty of Pharmacy, on Thursday, June 28, 2018, delivered an inaugural lecture on the topic: “THE DRUG, THE WHOLE DRUG, AND NOTHING BUT THE DRUG”. The lecture was centred on patients and what they do with their medications: the disbelief they have in the total efficacy of prescriptions and their continual search for herbal supplements which is not without consequences, the role of pharmacists when dealing with patients who have this perception, and the government’s role too. In making recommendations based on her research, Prof. Fakeye, at the one-hour lecture, advised that the Federal Government of Nigeria should establish a prescription policy that would see to it that most drugs are not sold without a doctor’s prescription, and pharmacists’ strict adherence to this. She also recommended that the University of Ibadan should pioneer the creation of a Centre for Drug Discovery, Development and Regulation, which would see to the development of herbal medications whose efficacy has been proven by pharmacists in the university over the years. Present at the lecture was the university procession led by the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, Prof. Deko, and Prof. Adegoke, both of the Faculty of Pharmacy, colleagues, family, friends, students, and well-wishers.
