The University of Ibadan on the 16th of May, 2018, held a Matriculation ceremony at Trenchard Hall for the newly admitted students into its Open and Distance Learning Centre. The program, which commenced at 10:00am, with many of the matriculants having seated while others troop in, was graced by the presence of several key stakeholders of the institution, these include: the principal officers of the institution, such as the Registrar; parents, and guardian.
The matriculation lecture tagged: Education on Open and Distance Learning mode, tool for development in 21st century; was delivered by Prof. Bakare of the department of Microbiology, Lagos state University. Prof Bakare, whose citation was recited by the communication officer, University of Ibadan Distance Learning Center, Mr Oladayo Olajide; appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka-whose absence resonates but was duly represented- before she commenced her speech.
Prof Bakare, who is also the pioneer and current director of Lagos State University Open and Distance Learning and Research Institute, admonished the newly admitted students to be good ambassadors of the University. She urged the new students to make judicious use of the rare opportunity to learn at their convenience, whilst encouraging them to be diligent, dedicated and determined; at the same time, be morally upright as the University of Ibadan, which she reluctantly admitted to be the first and best in the country, award degrees only after being found worthy in character and learning.
The Registrar latter stepped forward to administered the oath to the matriculants and afterwards congratulated them. The meeting was later declared closed and the fresh students were seen celebrating with friends, family and well wishers.
