“THE REASON WHY NIGERIA IS FACING SECURITY ISSUES IS BECAUSE OUR LEADERS LACK EDUCATION” – OGUNLANA

This statement was made by the convener for Peace Studies and Practice, Oyo state chapter, Institute of Peace and strategic Studies, Amb.Oludare Ogunlana while addressing the issue of “Converstion on Nigeria Democracy and National security” on the 10th of May 2018 at ICC, University of Ibadan.

While addressing the lead paper he stated amidst other things that education, insecurity and good leadership are essential in tackling the issue of true democracy and security.  According to him, the plight of having Nigerian Youth corpers deployed to farms as part of their service to the country in an analogue world and having a leader stating in an international conference that it youths are lazy can only be accredited to lack of education on the part of the leaders.

He also emphasized on the importance of good leadership and stated elements that a good leader must possess in other to follow the goodwill of his followers.

The programme which was to start by 11am, started and hour before scheduled met dignitaries of the likes of Dr. Carl Oshodi, Dr. Tunde Alabi, Veteran Journalist Edmund Obilo, Comrade Rasaq Oladosu and others who also were the discussants of the lead paper.

The discussants reiterated on the problems of the country and admonish Nigerians to be the magical hand in solving the problem rather than being a part of the problem. They further added that the problem of insecurity, poor governance and underdevelopment are general problems and cannot be solved in isolation. This can only be solved through demonstrative practices like setting up institutions and reaching out to those that can assist in reviving the country to a standard.

The occasion was rounded off with closing remarks from other dignitaries who appreciated the points made by the discussants.
