The Hult Prize Challenge 2017 has advanced to the next stage where 17 teams of 3-4 members each will battle for supremacy on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 at CESDEV, Bodija by 9am.
The Hult Prize is a competition that is envisioned to raise social entrepreneurs across the world to change thriving social issues. The Hult Prize Challenge started few weeks ago with workshops and trainings from notable facilitators such as Bukky Shonibare of the #BringBackOurGirls, Emeka Ossai, Dr. Demola Lewis, and Dr. Adedapo of the Centre for En
trepreneurship and Innovation among others who tutored the participating students of the University of Ibadan.
In similar development, the Hult Prize Local Organizing Committee (LOC) paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor on Monday, November 21, 2016. The visit took place at about 10am in the morning at the conference room where the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof. Emilolorun Aiyelari who represented the Vice Chancellor received the LOC; he promised to augment their efforts towards actualizing the vision of the Hult Prize foundation.
Also at the courtesy visit, the DVC Academics, Prof. Gbemisola Oke, said the University must not fall short of its expectations of getting the best student team to win this competition. She added that she would love to meet the student team members to ensure they understand the framework for this competition.
Prof. Oke further stated that the LOC members for the competition, who are all Post-Graduate Students, should be ahead in their research on current refugee challenges and solutions and their vast knowledge on these issues will suffice for superior scalable idea from the participants.
The University management however acknowledged the competition and promised to give their full support including making Trenchard hall available for the final event which is to take place on the Monday, 12th of December, 2016.
The Challenge started with 20 teams but only 17 teams with over 60 students in all will participate at this Saturday’s Idea Pitching and Screening Exercise. The participating teams include: Alpha, FactsCount, Innovators, Aspire, Emerald, Damijoki, VAV, Quick Health, Ancora, The Rock, TrailBlazer, Matrix, IdeocreatConsul, Spring, Catholicons, Radicals and Grace.
Out of the 17 teams that will participate at the Idea Pitching and Screening Exercise, seven teams will proceed to the Quarter Finals that will hold at Trenchard Hall on December 12 and the team with the superior idea will represent the University at regional semifinals outside the country.
