WINLESS EAGLES:Altidore Double Condemns Eagles to Defeat

AFRICA’S BEST: Algeria Overtakes Cote d’Ivoire As Best Team In Africa

Côte d’Ivoire is no longer leader on the African continent in the FIFA rankings of national teams released Thursday. The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire have lost their place in favor of Algeria.

The Desert Foxes have won 3 seats and are found in the first spot on the continent and globally 22nd while Ivorians lost two seats and occupy the second African and 23rd place with the same number of points as Denmark. Egypt, Ghana and Cape Verde respectively close the top 5.

Nigeria and Cameroon who will compete in the 2014 World Cup respectively rank 6th (44th worldwide) and 10th (56th worldwide).

 

WORLD CUP BABY: Super Eagles Goalkeeper Announces Birth Of Baby Boy!

The Super Eagles camp in Jacksonville, United States was thrown into jubilation when goalkeeper Austin Ejide gleefully announced that his wife, Chito, has given birth to a bouncing baby girl in nearby Chicago City, also in the United States of America.

Super Eagles boss, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, promptly named the child the World Cup baby of Nigeria, as she came barely 10 days to Nigeria’s opening World Cup game against Iran on June 16.

Asked what name he will like to call the baby girl, Ejide, beaming with smiles, said her name will be called Chimamanda.

 

Poland deny Team Nigeria visas for u-23 Volleyball championship

Poland has denied Team Nigeria’s male and female beach volleyball teams entry visas into its country for the FIVB U-23 Male and Female Beach Volleyball Championships.
Chairman of the NVBF’s Beach Volleyball Commission, Musa Nimrod revealed that it was a big set-back for them not to be issued visas by the Polish Embassy in Abuja, calling it a big “disaster.
“But it is unfortunate that it turned out this way. And this is the second time this Polish Embassy is denying us visa.

“My question now is, why are they (Poland) allowed to host the championships when they will not grant visas to participating countries?

2014 AWC qualifier: Falcons complete 12-1 rout of She-Amavubi

The senior women’s national team, the super falcons completed an 8-0 rout of the She-Amavubi of Rwanda in their second leg tie 2014 African Women’s championship qualifier at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna thanks to goals from Blessing Edoho, Esther Sunday coupled with a deserved brace from Azizat Oshoala, and Desire Oparanozie’s Hat-trick.

Coach Edwin Okon had earlier reiterated the desire of his team not to relax despite their 4-1 first leg advantage in Rwanda. The home side however, enjoyed so much support from the fans and continued to wow the supporters with beautiful pieces of skills and team play.

Nigeria, after a 12-1 aggregate win against Rwanda will join other countries to participate at the AWC in Namibia where the four semi-finalists will qualify for the world championships next year.

Eden Hazard asserts Chelsea stay despite exit rumours

Chelsea midfielder, Eden Hazard has reiterated that he remains the club’s player despite rumours linking the Belgian with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Speculation have been around his future with 2013/14 Ligue One champions, Paris Saint.German, a possible destination for last season’s PFA Young Player of the Year.
Hazard and Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho have exchanged spats since the return of the Portuguese, who has criticised the defensive rate of the player and team’s tactics during the season.
However, the Belgian admits that he has a contract at Chelsea, but would rather remain focused with Belgium for the World Cup in Brazil.
Hazard played 35 times, scoring 14 goals in the Premier League last season and has three UEFA Champions League goals.
Maria Sharapova wins French Open title

Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has for the second time in her career won the French Open Grand Slam.

Sharapova had to give the game her all to be able to defeat resilient Romanian SimonaHalep whom she defeated 6-4 6-7 6-4.
The win is the second French Open title Sharapova will be winning,taking her tally to five Grand Slam titles, and she is now joint-11th on the all-time list alongside Martina Hingis.
